Charlie McMurdie – Decades of industry and enterprise experience

Charlie’s background in Policing and Psychology served as a solid foundation for her remarkable career. During her tenure with the Metropolitan Police, she held various senior detective roles, leading investigations into a broad spectrum of Serious and Organised Crime, including Armed Robbery, Murder, Kidnap, Covert Operations, Terrorism, Fraud, and much more. Notably, she established and led the world-class national cybercrime capability and enforcement body for the United Kingdom, which delivered over £1billion in harm prevention within the first 18 months.

As a renowned cybercrime and security expert, Charlie is internationally acclaimed for her expertise and is an advisor on the internet, computing, fraud, and security sectors, both within government and industry. Her outstanding negotiation and communication skills, coupled with her leadership acumen, have enabled her to lead change programs and accelerate the transition of best-value initiatives.

Furthermore. Charlie’s extensive network spans academia, industry, government, and international security agencies. As the UK Interpol and Europol lead, she was pivotal in building strategic and tactical operational cyber capabilities.

Among her many accomplishments, Charlie led the cybercrime policing response for the London 2012 Olympics, overseeing a global security plan of the highest order. She also tested and exercised UK defences and responses to critical incidents, personally briefed ministers, and led operational responses to COBR urgent cyber situations.

After her remarkable law enforcement career, Charlie was appointed Senior Cyber Crime Adviser to PwC, where she played a significant role in building internal cyber capabilities across all service lines. She advised on various global strategic and operational cyber security programs and delivered cyber security advice and capabilities to clients. Additionally, she was the cybercrime lead within Breach Aid, PwC’s critical incident multidiscipline team.

Charlie is not only an honourary fellow at Warwick University but has also been inducted into the Cyber Security Hall of Fame. As a brilliant and insightful keynote speaker, she can captivate her audience and open their eyes to the fascinating world of cyber security.
